Improving Your Diet and Fitness During Pregnancy

from: PregnancyExtra.com

Diet and fitness during pregnancy are very important things to consider when you are pregnant. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle will reduce the chances of suffering from any pregnancy medical conditions and will make it easier to cope with the stresses of birth. Your baby will also reap the benefits from maintaining a good diet and fitness during pregnancy.

Always check with your doctor before commencing a fitness programme or changing your diet. Try to eat plenty of fruit and vegetables to gain plenty of essential nutrients. You should drink lots of water, as it is easy to become dehydrated during pregnancy. There is plenty of information available from your health practitioner about diet and fitness during pregnancy. Exercising can improve your mental health and losing all those pregnancy pounds after labor. Women who follow a good diet and fitness during pregnancy have reduced weight gain, feel better emotionally, their sleep improves and most experience a more rapid weight loss after pregnancy particularly if they continue their healthy eating and exercise programme post pregnancy. Try to wear a good fitting bra and comfortable trainers while exercising.

Good forms of exercise when choosing a diet and fitness during pregnancy, are swimming, aqua aerobics, yoga, Pilates and walking. Walking is one of the most popular forms of exercise for pregnant ladies, you can adjust how far you choose to walk and you can vary the ascent, as you get fitter. You will also be getting plenty of fresh air, which will help you, sleep. Aqua aerobics classes are available for pregnant ladies and are run by professional instructors or midwives. Pilate classes are ideal to help with breathing exercises and to help improve your posture. Yoga will help you become suppler and helps get the muscles working ready for childbirth.

It can be really hard to maintain good healthy levels of diet and fitness during pregnancy because of the foods that make you feel sick or the all too common pregnancy cravings. Try to remember that you are making a baby and that you want it to be healthy. You only need an extra 300 calories when you are pregnant and you should try to eat plenty of protein and take prenatal vitamins. Following a good diet and fitness during pregnancy will also help reduce the chance of miscarriage. You should include diary products which are essential to help build up your calcium levels, plenty of red meat and fish, or if you are vegetarian plenty of beans and lentils. Also try to include bread and grains into your diet. Another important supplement that you will be advised to take is folic acid.
